Beyond Content 01
Due to regular new publications on the book market, large quantities of books fall out of use every day. In addition, many libraries, second-hand bookshops and private collections are being closed down as a result of digitalisation and a reorientation of the market.
As part of a series, books are used beyond their content as a medium for artistic applications and construction elements for furnishings.
Methods of connection without the restriction of recyclability were developed for this purpose.
Books are no longer used just to convey stories — instead, they become physical building blocks in a larger structure. Taken out of their traditional context, they are arranged into a seemingly functional, pixel-like sculpture. Although the shape is geometric, the flexibility of paper introduces an organic, almost lifelike quality.
The visible titles offer only fragments of the original narratives; the books are no longer meant to be read, but seen as part of a new spatial system. In this form, they raise questions about purpose and identity: Are they materials or messages? Is this a sculpture or a library? The result exists in a space between function and abstraction, permanence and fragility.
